Read the event format

Many individual events begin with pools, followed by a direct-elimination bracket. Formats can differ by organiser and category. Check the event notice for the number of rounds, qualification rules and bout limits instead of assuming every competition follows the same pattern.

Use the pool sheet

Match names or numbers carefully. Record victories, bouts fenced and touches for and against. A bye is not a completed bout in a personal statistics worksheet. For an official withdrawal or correction, use the organiser’s corrected result sheet.

Find the next appointment

In the bracket, locate the athlete and their next opponent, then verify piste and reporting information with the official display. A published bracket can change after a correction. Save the event’s results link so you can return to the same source throughout the day.
