FENCERLENS / THE FENCING FIELD GUIDE

Fencing video review readiness check

Check your recording permission, athlete identification, framing and playback. Get a practical list of what to fix or explain before review.

← All tools

This is a self-check based on your answers. It does not inspect or upload a video and cannot certify that every action is analysable. Check the recording, then select an answer for every item.

Have you confirmed the event’s filming rules and permission to share this footage for review?

Can a reviewer identify the target athlete and any side changes throughout the bout?

Have you played the beginning, middle and end and checked for freezing or a truncated ending?

Are both athletes’ full bodies and useful piste space visible during the actions you want reviewed?

Does the footage include preparation and the end of each relevant action, without speed changes or highlight cuts?

Can the recorded result and relevant score or time context be checked from the video or your notes?

Is this the original file or a clear export, with stable playback and no heavy messaging-app compression?

What to do with the result

Resolve permission, athlete identification and playback questions first. Missing footwork, cuts or an unreadable score should be disclosed so a reviewer can limit conclusions. Preserve the original and write down the timestamps of gaps; a complete set of “Yes” answers is still your self-report.

Example: if both athletes are visible but the score cannot be read, keep the footage and attach the official result or a score note. Do not guess a referee’s decision from body movement alone.
